Dominant Industry built this ink to carry the same quality: a colour that looks quiet indoors and reveals something entirely different the moment the sun finds it.

Dominant Industry Alchemist C02 Seraphinite is a 25ml calligraphy ink from the Alchemist Series, part of the Color-Changing sub-line alongside Alexandrite, Moonstone, and Philosopher's Stone. Made in small batches in Paju, South Korea, it pairs a soft yellow base with silver shimmer, and shifts across a spectrum of blue-green tones depending on how much UV light it's catching.

The Colour Change

Indoors

Away from direct light, Seraphinite settles into a soft, pale yellow carrying a fine silver shimmer — gentle and understated, easy to overlook until it isn't.

In Sunlight

Step into direct sun and the shift happens within seconds: pale yellow gives way to shades of blue-green, ranging from a soft sky-blue to a deeper, richer teal depending on the intensity of the light hitting the page. The transformation is not a single fixed colour but a range — brighter sun pulls it deeper into blue-green, softer light holds it closer to a pale aqua. Bring the writing back indoors, and the colour eases back toward its original pale yellow.

Before You Fill Your Pen

Seraphinite is a dip pen and brush ink only. It is not intended for fountain pens, and filling one with it is not recommended — the shimmer and colour-shifting pigment are built for the open flow of a dip nib, glass pen, or brush, not a fountain pen's finer feed system.

Practical Notes

Flow & Dry Time

Seraphinite has an average flow, but dries considerably slower than most Alchemist inks — around 240 seconds on a medium nib on Rhodia paper. Plan for extra drying time before handling written pages, especially in humid conditions.

Recommended Paper & Tools

The colour shift and silver shimmer both show best on smooth, ink-friendly paper — dedicated calligraphy paper or similar surfaces let the full yellow-to-blue-green range come through clearly. Pair it with dip pens, glass pens, or brushes to bring out the shimmer alongside the transformation.

Handling

Shake the bottle well before each use to keep the silver shimmer particles evenly distributed, and rinse your tools after use to prevent buildup.
