Dominant Industry Alchemist C06 Apatura Metis — 25ml Calligraphy Ink

Butterfly wings show up again and again as alchemical reagents in old books, in games, in anime — fragile things that are somehow also transformative. Apatura Metis takes its name and its colour directly from one: a butterfly whose bold orange wings flash sharp blue at certain angles, a piece of natural iridescence that Dominant Industry set out to bottle rather than simply describe.

Dominant Industry Alchemist C06 Apatura Metis is a 25ml calligraphy ink from the Alchemist Series, sitting in its Pearl sub-line alongside Unicorn. Made in small batches at the brand's studio in Paju, South Korea, it pairs a vivid orange base with two glitter tones at once — gold and blue — rather than the single shimmer colour most glitter inks settle for.

The Colour

Base Tone

Apatura Metis opens as a bright, saturated orange — warm, confident, and immediately eye-catching on the page. It reads as one of the more energetic colours in the Alchemist lineup, closer to flame than to pastel.

The Glitter

What sets Apatura Metis apart is a dual-tone glitter of gold and blue suspended through the orange base. In direct or angled light — sunlight especially — the blue particles flash against the warm orange in a way that mirrors the actual colour-shifting wings of the butterfly it's named for. Gold adds a second layer of warmth and sparkle underneath. Shake the bottle well before use to bring the glitter back into even suspension, as it settles when the ink sits.

Before You Fill Your Pen

Apatura Metis is a dip pen and brush ink only. Like the other glitter and colour-changing inks in the Alchemist Series, it is not intended for fountain pens — the glitter density and particle size are built for the open flow of a dip nib, glass pen, or brush, not for a fountain pen's finer feed channels. Using it in a fountain pen risks clogging and is not something we recommend.

Formula

An additive-process ink built from reflective and transparent pigments, designed by Dominant Industry to hold its glitter and colour across paper, plastic, film, and glass — part of the brand's broader "bottled light" approach to ink-making.

Recommended Paper & Tools

Apatura Metis performs best on smooth, ink-friendly surfaces where the glitter can sit visibly on top of the dried ink — think calligraphy paper, Rhodia, or glass and film for mixed-media work. Pair it with dip pens, glass pens, or brushes for the fullest expression of both the orange base and the gold-blue glitter.

Care

Because of its glitter content, rinse dip pens and brushes after use to prevent particle buildup, and store the bottle away from direct sunlight, open flame, and high heat to preserve the ink's quality over time.
