Dominant Industry Pearl 011 Autumn Forest is a 25ml fountain pen ink from the Pearl Series, hand-crafted in small batches at Dominant Industry's studio in Paju, South Korea. Built around the idea of bottled light, the Pearl Series pairs richly pigmented bases with fine, eco-friendly shimmer particles, designed to be used with medium or broad nibs to avoid clogging. Autumn Forest takes its inspiration from the layered, shifting tones of a forest in autumn — a colour that resists easy description and rewards close attention.

Colour Profile

Base Colour

Autumn Forest is an unsaturated green-brown — a warm, mossy tone that shifts depending on how it is applied. In lighter strokes, it reads as a muted olive or dark green; in heavier, more saturated areas, it pulls toward warm brown and grey. On Tomoe River paper the ink can appear grey and blue, while on Cosmo Air Light paper the blue undertones almost disappear entirely. It is a colour that genuinely looks different depending on the paper, nib size, and light — as one reviewer put it, the ink always looks different, and almost seems to make subtle changes in its appearance intentionally. 

Shimmer

Autumn Forest has a red shimmer — also described as rose gold or pearl pink — that sits in strong contrast against the earthy green-brown base. The shimmer is visible at medium nib sizes and becomes particularly striking in large swatches and dip pen work, where the red particles catch the light against the darker base. Shake the bottle gently before each fill to keep the particles evenly suspended. 

Shading

Autumn Forest offers medium shading, creating lovely gradients as you write, with visible tonal movement from lighter green to deeper brown across a stroke. The shading is one of the ink's strongest qualities, adding real texture and depth to everyday writing. 

Sheen

Autumn Forest has no sheen effect. The pearl shimmer almost takes the role of sheen, providing a secondary visual layer that in practice gives the ink more dimensionality than a standard no-sheen ink.

Flow & Dry Time

Autumn Forest has an average flow and dries in approximately 20 seconds on a medium nib on Rhodia, making it one of the faster-drying inks in the Pearl line. The flow runs slightly on the drier side, which helps with dry time but may benefit from a wetter nib or broader tip. Regular cleaning is recommended to prevent shimmer particle build-up during extended use. 

Water Resistance

Autumn Forest offers low water resistance and is not suited to documents requiring permanence.

How to Get the Most Out of Autumn Forest

Recommended Paper

Autumn Forest shows no feathering or bleed-through on premium papers such as Tomoe River, where the red shimmer sits cleanly on the surface and the shading gradient develops fully across each stroke. It also performs well on Cosmo Air Light and Rhodia. On standard copy paper, expect some feathering and a less defined shimmer. 

Recommended Nibs

Because of its shimmer content and slightly drier flow, medium or broad nibs are recommended over fine or extra-fine, both to keep the particles moving smoothly and to let the red shimmer express itself fully in each stroke.
