This is the official replacement nib for the Aluminium Rollerball Pen — a 0.5mm stainless steel tip that restores clean, consistent ink flow when the original nib clogs, dries out, or simply needs refreshing after a change of ink colour. Like the pen itself, it's designed to draw ink through a converter rather than running on a sealed cartridge, so replacing the nib is a normal part of maintaining the pen over years of use rather than a sign something's gone wrong.

What Makes This Nib Different

Most rollerball pens are built around disposable cartridges — when the ink runs out or the tip wears down, the whole refill gets thrown away. Kakimori's Aluminium Rollerball takes a different approach: since the pen fills from bottled ink through a converter, the nib itself is the only part that ever needs replacing, and it's designed to be swapped in seconds rather than requiring a whole new pen or refill assembly. This keeps the pen in service far longer than a typical rollerball, and it means switching ink colours cleanly is as simple as fitting a new nib rather than fully flushing the old one.

Compatibility & Installation

This nib is compatible exclusively with the Kakimori Aluminium Rollerball Pen — it does not fit the Frost pen or Kakimori's earlier, now-discontinued plastic rollerball. Installing it is straightforward: unscrew the worn nib from the grip section and thread the new one into place; no tools are required. We recommend replacing the nib whenever switching to a new ink colour, or as soon as the existing nib becomes blocked and no longer flows smoothly after rinsing.

Care & Ink Compatibility

The nib is designed for use with Kakimori and Inkstand pigment inks, drawn into the pen via its converter. If ink flow becomes sluggish, Kakimori's ink cleaning solution can often restore it — though a fully clogged nib is best replaced outright rather than repeatedly flushed. Daily use helps prevent the nib from drying out between writing sessions, and if travelling by air, we recommend filling the converter after arrival rather than before departure to avoid leakage from pressure changes.

Kakimori is a stationery brand and shop rooted in Kuramae, Tokyo, tracing back to a family stationery business founded in 1961.
