A Pen That Doesn't Look Like a Pen
The Opus 88 Flora takes its name from Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers and spring — and its shape from a flower vase. Capped, it stands upright on your desk exactly like one: a tapered neck rising from the cap, flaring gently at the base into a foot-like finial. There's no branding anywhere on the pen. It's a deliberate choice, and one that lets the design speak entirely for itself.
Design & Construction
The Flora's body is cast in colorful acrylic resin with a pearlescent, multi-toned finish — reminiscent of a bouquet in full bloom. Because the resin's pattern and color blend varies piece by piece, no two Flora pens are ever quite identical; the one you receive is genuinely one of a kind. Capped length is approximately 145.0 mm, body length approximately 132.8 mm, and cap length approximately 62.5 mm. Body diameter runs approximately 17.5 mm, cap diameter approximately 19.3 mm, and grip diameter approximately 12.7 mm, with a weight of approximately 31 g — a substantial pen with genuine desk presence. The threaded cap does not post.
The pen ships in an Opus 88 gift box with a glass eyedropper pipette included for filling.
Eyedropper Filling System & Shut-Off Valve
The Flora fills the same way as other Opus 88 pens: a Japanese-style eyedropper system with an integrated center-bar shut-off valve. To fill, unscrew the grip section from the barrel, use the included glass pipette to draw ink, deposit it into the barrel, and reassemble. To write, unscrew the bottom finial to release the internal piston rod and allow ink to flow to the nib; tighten it again when the pen isn't in use to guard against leaks. Ink capacity runs approximately 2 ml, generous enough for extended writing sessions between fills.
Nib Options
The Flora is fitted with a Bock #6 (Type 250) stainless steel nib, available in:
- Extra Fine (EF) — a precise, controlled line for small handwriting
- Fine (F) — the most versatile everyday width
- Medium (M) — broader and wetter, good for shading inks
- Broad (B) — a bold, generous line
- 2.3 mm Stub — a wide italic-style grind for dramatic line variation
Important: the Flora uses a Bock #250 nib housing, a different fit from the JoWo #6 (Model 12) nibs used in most other Opus 88 pens — Opus 88's standard #12 replacement nib unit is not compatible with the Flora.
