A Quiet Moment Under the Mistletoe

Only 300 of these exist, each individually numbered. The Opus 88 Jazz "Under the Mistletoe" wraps the Jazz line's familiar cigar shape in a scene of quiet holiday warmth: two small gold cats rest nose to nose beneath a sprig of mistletoe, printed against a translucent resin barrel where crimson ribbons drift beside luminous gold accents and cooler green tones. Gunmetal trim frames the cap and finials, and the cap itself carries a detailed mistletoe pattern of its own. It's a pen built for the season, but suited to a collection year-round.

Design & Construction

The Jazz silhouette is the same rounded, comfortable cigar shape the line is known for — no sharp tapers, just proportions built for long writing sessions. Capped, the pen measures approximately 151.2 mm; the body alone is approximately 133.2 mm, with the cap adding approximately 69.6 mm. Grip diameter is approximately 11.2 mm, and the pen weighs approximately 28 g — substantial in hand without tipping into heavy. The translucent resin keeps the ink level visible at a glance, and the threaded cap can be posted for a longer writing length.

Eyedropper Filling System & Shut-Off Valve

Like other Jazz pens, Under the Mistletoe uses a Japanese-style eyedropper system with an integrated shut-off valve, controlled by twisting the blind cap at the end of the barrel. Closed, the valve seals the reservoir against the ink expansion that heat and altitude can cause — a real advantage for a pen that's likely to travel over the holidays, including by air. Open, ink flows freely to the feed. Maximum ink capacity is approximately 2.97 ml, several times what a standard converter holds.

To fill: unscrew the grip section from the barrel, use the included glass pipette to draw ink, deposit it into the barrel, and reassemble. Before writing, unscrew the blind cap to release the internal shut-off mechanism and allow ink flow to the nib; tighten it again before travel.

Under the Mistletoe is fitted with a #6 JoWo stainless steel nib, available in:

• Extra Fine (EF) — a precise, controlled line for small handwriting
• Fine (F) — the most versatile everyday width
• Medium (M) — broader and wetter, good for shading inks
• Broad (B) — a bold, generous line
• 1.5 mm Stub — an italic-style grind adding crisp line variation to every stroke

Opus 88 nibs tend to write slightly broader than equivalent Japanese sizes — if you usually reach for a Pilot or Sailor fine, consider sizing down one step.
