The Opus 88 Mini Pocket Check pairs a clear acrylic body with a striking black and white checkerboard cap — a graphic, high-contrast pattern that reads as timeless rather than trendy. The transparent barrel keeps your ink level and nib visible at a glance, while the checkered cap gives the pen enough personality to stand out in a pencil case without ever feeling loud.

Design & Construction

The Mini Pocket’s proportions are built for portability first: capped, the pen measures approximately 117–119 mm; uncapped, approximately 107–108 mm; and posted, approximately 140 mm. Cap length is approximately 50 mm, grip diameter approximately 11 mm, and body diameter approximately 14–15 mm, with a weight of approximately 22–24 g — small enough to disappear into a pocket or pencil case, while still comfortable to write with. A polished chrome clip completes the design, and the screw-on cap can be posted for a longer writing length.

Eyedropper Filling System & Shut-Off Valve

Despite its compact size, the Check holds a generous volume of ink through a Japanese-style eyedropper system with an integrated shut-off valve, using the full barrel as a reservoir — approximately 1.5 ml of capacity. To fill, unscrew the grip section, use the included glass eyedropper to draw ink, and deposit it into the barrel — leaving a little room for air pressure helps prevent leaks. Before writing, unscrew the blind cap at the end of the barrel to release the internal shut-off mechanism and allow ink to flow to the nib; retighten it before travel to seal the ink chamber, reassuring for a pen that’s likely to live in a bag or a pocket.

The Check is fitted with a #5 JoWo stainless steel nib, available in:

• Extra Fine (EF) — a precise, controlled line for small handwriting
• Fine (F) — the most versatile everyday width
• Medium (M) — broader and wetter, good for shading inks
• Broad (B) — a bold, generous line
• 1.4 mm Stub — an italic-style grind adding crisp line variation to every stroke
