A size that's neither pocket notebook nor full notepad

Yamamoto didn't land on 91 × 210mm by accident. The 91mm width is close to a standard pocket notebook — narrow enough to carry without printing on a bag. The 210mm length matches the long edge of A5 paper — generous enough for real writing space rather than just quick notes. The result is a shape that splits the difference: something you can hold and write with one hand, standing up, while still having enough vertical room to actually get something down, whether you're at a desk, outdoors, or jotting notes with the notebook resting on your palm.

The finest grid in the Basic Series lineup

Among Yamamoto's ruling options — plain, 5mm reticle, 4.5mm cross grid, 6mm ruled — this 2mm square grid is the tightest and most technical. It's built less for casual daily writing and more for situations where precision actually matters: detailed diagrams, small technical sketches, architectural notation, or any layout where a looser grid would leave too much guesswork. The grid sits quietly enough not to compete with what you draw over it, but it's there when you need to keep something exactly aligned.

How the binding actually behaves

Yamamoto calls this method "thread binding with glue" — visible stitching along the spine reinforced with a layer of adhesive underneath, rather than a binding that hides the thread. The result opens to roughly 180° at the throat, meaning the notebook lies genuinely flat rather than needing to be held open, which matters more on a fine 2mm grid than it would on a wider ruling, since precise work benefits from a stable, flat surface.

Cover and everyday use

The wax-treated cover here runs in a deep rust-brown, and develops the same creasing and gradual darkening as every other RO-BIKI Note with handling. Sixty pages of New Chiffon Cream paper, around 80g/m², take fountain pen ink cleanly. It fits the RO-BIKI Canvas Cover or a regular-size Traveler's Notebook — not passport-size.
