Why the mint green colourway reads differently than the rest of the RO-BIKI lineup
Yamamoto Paper's canvas covers mostly lean toward muted, worn-in tones — grays, tans, indigo. Mint Green (GA009) is the outlier: a soft, chalky sage rather than a bright or saturated mint, closer to the color of aged verdigris than a highlighter. It photographs lighter than the Vintage Blue or Cool Gray versions and tends to appeal to people who want their notebook system visible on a desk rather than tucked away — it doesn't disappear into a bag the way the darker colourways do.
The zipper detail worth knowing about
Unlike some of Yamamoto's earlier RO-BIKI cover runs, this version integrates a zippered pocket directly into the top edge of the cover rather than as a separate flap — visible as the metal pull along the spine. It's a small manufacturing change, but it changes how the cover behaves in daily use: cards, small bills, or a spare nib sit zipped against the canvas rather than in an open pocket that can shift when the cover is tossed into a bag.
How the fold-and-band system actually works day to day
Open the cover flat and you'll find a Book Band (the Mobilon elastic loop) anchoring a base RO-BIKI notebook to the canvas, plus separate Connect Bands that let you clip on additional notebooks — up to five in total — without needing to re-thread anything each time you swap one out. In practice this means you can keep a "reference" notebook permanently anchored and rotate a working notebook in and out weekly, which is closer to how a lot of RO-BIKI users actually organize a rotating set of notebooks by project or season.
What the canvas does over the first year
The shell is 16oz organic cotton with a lighter 10oz canvas lining. Both fabrics are stiff for the first few weeks and then relax noticeably — the fold crease softens, the corners lose their sharp edge, and the color mutes slightly from handling and light exposure, which on a pale colourway like mint green is more visually apparent than it would be on gray or blue. If you like the idea of a piece of stationery that visibly ages with you, this is one of the more dramatic examples of it in Yamamoto's lineup.
Sizing and fit
Folded and banded, the cover measures approximately 115mm × 213mm × 15mm and weighs around 85g — light enough to sit inside a tote or bag pocket without adding noticeable bulk. As with the rest of the RO-BIKI Canvas Cover series, it's sized specifically for RO-BIKI Note notebooks and isn't a drop-in fit for Traveler's Notebook refills, which run wider.
Where it's made
Each cover is sewn by hand in a Japanese workshop, in small production runs — the thickness of the canvas doesn't lend itself to automated stitching. Availability on any single colourway, including this one, tends to be limited as a result.
