A canvas cover built around one notebook system, not a generic sleeve

Most notebook covers are designed to fit a size. The RO-BIKI Note Canvas Cover is designed around a system: Yamamoto Paper's own RO-BIKI Note, the slim vertical notebook they've been refining since the BASIC series launched in 2010. The cover isn't an accessory bolted on afterward — it was built by request, after repeated sizing and stitching tests, specifically to carry this notebook the way its owners actually use it.

What it's made of

The shell is 16oz organic cotton canvas — thick enough to hold its shape in a bag, but not stiff out of the box. Like raw denim, it softens and takes on a patina with handling: the corners round off, the fold lines lighten, and after a year of daily carry it looks distinctly like yours rather than off-the-shelf. Vintage Blue leans muted and slate-toned rather than bright, closer to washed indigo than navy.

How it holds your notebooks

A Mobilon elastic band — the same type used in surgical tape, chosen here for its long-term elasticity — binds up to five RO-BIKI notebooks together against an "anchor" notebook slid into the spine pocket. Add or remove notebooks as your rotation changes; nothing about the system locks you into one book at a time.

Where things get organized

Around the notebook stack sit five distinct pockets: a zippered compartment for cards, keys, or cash; a full-height inside pocket sized for a spare RO-BIKI notebook; a wide front pocket that holds a phone or a second notebook flat; and a dedicated pen loop built into the closure strap itself, so a fountain pen travels secured rather than rattling loose. Closed, the whole thing measures roughly 9 × 21cm and folds down to about 1.5cm thick — thin enough to disappear into a bag rather than bulk it out.

A note on fit

If you also carry a Traveler's Notebook, it's worth knowing the two systems aren't interchangeable: RO-BIKI notebooks run narrower (about 9cm vs. TN's roughly 11cm refills), so a RO-BIKI notebook will slide into a standard TN cover, but a TN refill won't fit this cover without trimming. This cover is built for RO-BIKI width specifically.

Made in Japan, in small batches

Each cover is hand-sewn in a Japanese textile workshop — the thickness of the canvas means the stitching has to be done manually rather than run through automated lines, so production happens in small lots rather than continuous runs. Shosai currently holds limited stock of this colourway.
