A notebook that carries a museum piece in your pocket
The RO-BIKI Note Museum Series takes actual paintings from museum collections around the world and prints them across a passport-sized wax paper cover — the idea being a kind of "world museum tour" you carry notebook by notebook. This edition reproduces Vincent van Gogh's Bouquet of Flowers in a Vase (1890), held today in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It's one of the loosely-brushed still lifes van Gogh painted in his final year, built around the blue-and-ochre palette and the thick, almost brick-like layering of paint he was working with near the end of his life in Auvers.
Why wax paper, specifically
The cover isn't printed on card stock — it's wax-treated paper, the same finish Yamamoto uses across the RO-BIKI line. It starts smooth and slightly stiff, and with handling it creases, scuffs, and softens the way leather does, so the painting on the front picks up a texture of use rather than staying flat and glossy. A notebook you've actually carried for six months looks different from one still in shrink wrap — that's intentional, not a flaw.
Built for actual writing, not just display
Inside are 60 pages of 5mm dot grid on roughly 75g/m² ivory writing paper, finished to take fountain pen ink cleanly with minimal feathering and reasonably fast dry time — this isn't a novelty notebook that only looks good closed. The pages are thread-bound with saddle stitching, so the notebook opens flat rather than fighting you at the spine, which matters more than it sounds when you're sketching or writing across a two-page spread.
Works as a Traveler's Notebook passport refill
At 88 × 125mm, this matches standard passport-size Traveler's Notebook dimensions almost exactly, so it slides into a passport-size TN leather cover the same way an official TN refill would — a lower-cost, wax-paper alternative if you're already running that system and want something with more visual character than a plain kraft insert. It also works perfectly well on its own, without any cover at all, for anyone who just wants a compact, pocket-sized notebook for travel or daily notes.
